Vilamoura

Vilamoura, a well-planned and constructed resort situated to the west of Faro, is the largest tourist venture in Portugal and probably in the whole of Europe.

Amongst quality hotels and many apartments, this is a holiday resort where you can choose between three golf courses and a wide range of sports facilities including a large marina. For those who want to avoid traffic jams, there is also a private airfield.


This was also one of the Roman’s favourite places.

Although it is built on a long stretch of land and despite its many signposts, it can be a difficult place to find your way around at first. If in doubt, head for the Marina, full of luxury yachts, shops, cafés and restaurants is its main attraction and logical centre.

Close by, the Vilamoura Casino lets you try your luck on the machines or the more demanding gambling tables, although it isn’t quite up to Las Vegas standards. The Casino’s restaurant is famous for its night-time shows and professional dancers. For cinema lovers, the Casino has a comfortable hall where films are shown in English.
