Lagoa

Lagoa, a typical small provincial town, is famous for its winery, the most productive in the Algarve. Strong and tangy white and red table wines are produced from grapes that grow in a vast area around Lagoa.

Visitors are welcome to visit the wine lodge (after making a reservation), to see part of the wine-making process and sample the final product.

Lagoa’s banks and shops attract tourists but it is not really a tourist town. That however is only half the story; those bypassing the town will miss the charming convent and war memorial at the top of the hill and the traditional market further down. So, take a little time and wander round the place, perhaps taking refreshment in one of the cafés by the small but shady gardens.
